Former Jets, Bills coach Rex Ryan outlines how he would try to stop Chiefs offense
Former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan made his mark in the NFL on defensive side of the ball.
That’s why Ryan was asked on Tuesday’s edition of “The Pat McAfee Show” how he’d stop the Chiefs if he was a defensive coordinator.
The first choice for Ryan, who was defensive coordinator for the Ravens and a few college teams including Kansas State: Call in sick that week.
He was joking of course, but Ryan then ticked off all the great Chiefs offensive players, including Patrick Mahomes, whom Ryan called “the most special, gifted quarterback I’ve ever seen.”
Ryan then outlined what he do if he faced the Chiefs.
“To me, it is such a great offense to watch and it’s fun as heck,” Ryan said. “I think the only way you can really stop it is you’ve got to mix it all, man.
“You’ve got to challenge them. You’ve got to challenge them mentally, you’ve got to challenge the protection, you know, challenge this offensive line, you’ve got to challenge those receivers to make sight adjustments, you’ve got to do all those types of things and you can’t give free access to them. I think you challenge them.”
Ryan talked about which teams might be the best to slow the Chiefs, mentioning the Ravens and Patriots.
