With Chris Jones signed, Chiefs coach Andy Reid now expects to receive brownies
This was a peak 2020 video conference call.
The Chiefs on Monday held a news conference to formally announce the signing of defensive tackle Chris Jones to a contract extension. Jones was joined by Chiefs general manager Brett Veach and coach Andy Reid.
At one point, Reid was talking when there were technical difficulties.
“We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, but this is sure a great start,” Reid said. “Again, we appreciate Chris and Chris, heads up, he’s his own man so he’s headed this thing up ...”
Reid’s screen suddenly froze in a moment that is familiar to anyone who’s used Zoom, Google hangouts or any other video conference.
Veach asked: “Did we lose him there?”
Brad Gee, the Chiefs’ director of football communications, said: “Yeah, I think we lost coach there.”
Just then Reid’s screen came back to life and his sense of humor was on display.
“I don’t know where you lost me,” Reid said. “I was lost in cyberspace for a minute. It was quite exciting. I’ll turn it over to Chris from here.”
Jones got a big laugh out of Reid’s comments, and can see the moment in the video above.
That wasn’t the only funny moment from the call. Reid joked that one big reason why he wanted Jones back in the fold. It has to do with his agents, Katz Brothers Sports.
“I always joke with the Katz brothers that really the only reason we signed Chris back was because their mom makes the best brownies you’ve ever had,” Reid said. “So, I’m still expecting to get those Chris, and Katz brothers.”
