Chiefs’ Mitchell Schwartz shares inspiration for his grilled Double Bacon Burger Dog
Each year, new food options are offered at Arrowhead Stadium, and Aramark should look to Chiefs offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz for inspiration.
On the Fourth of July, Schwartz debuted his own creation: the Double Bacon Burger Dog.
It’s two beef patties, two hot dogs, two strips of bacon and two slices of cheese. That’s a lot of protein and calories.
“To me, the July 4th spread is hot dogs, hamburgers, maybe potato salad and corn. I made an onion dip, which is pretty awesome,” Schwartz said. “I figured hot dogs and hamburgers are a starting point for me and I was just kind of envisioning the spread on the grill and what I’d have. It just came together.
“I pretty much eat all these things separately during the day so I might as well throw it all on one burger. It turned out awesome.”
Schwartz shared a photo of the meal that would make Ron Swanson smile:
Schwartz loves cooking and frequently shares recipes and tips with fans on social media. He said coming up with ideas like the Double Bacon Burger Dog is a win-win.
“That’s kind of a thing that you go back to when you’re grilling whether it’s a normal grill or on the pellet grill with Kingsford is you did it for yourself, but also for your friends and your family,” he said.
“In these times you may not necessarily have too many other people, but you create this awesome dish and you get to share it with other people. As much enjoyment and excitement you get from making a really good meal, I think you always get more excitement from seeing happiness in other people.”
Schwartz said he didn’t bite off more than he could chew with the burger-hot dog combination. But it definitely filled him up.
“I ate it but I didn’t eat dinner that night,” Schwartz said. “I wasn’t too hungry the rest of the day and luckily the rest of the day called for a lot of laying on the couch. That was pretty much the only thing I ate that day.”
