KC television stars help Mahomes, Kelce honor Andy Reid’s first Super Bowl at ESPYs
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the annual Big Slick fundraiser for the Children’s Mercy Cancer Center to be a virtual event. The same was true for Sunday night’s ESPY awards.
Those two events sort of overlapped at the ESPYs, which is ESPN’s annual awards program.
Big Slick stars Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family” fame, Rob Riggle and David Koechner, along with “Saturday Night Live” star Heidi Gardner, joined Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce for a Zoom call at the ESPYs.
The stars feigned anger that there was no team of the year award because other sports leagues had their seasons cut short by the coronavirus. Mahomes delivered the “bad news,” but Gardner was having none of it.
“You’re faking us out Patrick like when you do the no-look pass or like when you pretend the fuzzy Mohawk is a thing,” Gardner joked.
Kelce reiterated that there would be no Best Team ESPY.
“Let me get this straight, the Astros get a Best Team ESPY and we get nothing? What!?!” Riggle said.
