Ezekiel Elliott among Cowboys, Texans players to test positive for coronavirus
This could ramp up the debate on whether the NFL will play during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, several members of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans have tested positive for COVID-19.
“None of the players are believed to have been in their team facilities,” Rapoport tweeted Monday. “The teams followed proper health protocols.”
Rapoport later added that star Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was among the players who had tested positive.
While on the NFL Network Monday morning, Rapoport gave this update: “Zeke Elliott is feeling fine and from what I understand, the Texans players also are feeling fine and do not appear to be sick.”
According to Pro Football Talk, four total players have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, two on each team. “One of the Texans players attended George Floyd’s funeral last week — along with a sizable delegation from the organization,” Mike Florio wrote.
Elliott didn’t seem pleased that the news of his diagnosis became known.
The news of the NFL players comes as Texas has seen a jump in the number of COVID-19 cases.
This is from CBS News: “The number of people in Texas hospitalized from the coronavirus hit a record high of 2,287 on Sunday, an increase from the previous record of 2,242 cases on Saturday. The state has continued to move forward with its reopening plan, with restaurants being allowed to increase capacity to 75% and almost all businesses allowed to operate with 50% capacity on Friday.”
CBS reported that Harris County, which includes Houston, has more than 16,000 cases, while Dallas County has more than 13,000 cases and Tarrant County, which includes Fort Worth, reported more than 7,000 cases.
Other NFL players who have tested positive for the coronavirus include the Broncos’ Von Miller and Rams’ Brian Allen. Saints coach Sean Payton also had the coronavirus.
Miller talked about dealing with the disease in April:
