Chiefs’ Andy Reid zings Colin Cowherd for picking Broncos to win AFC West

On Tuesday, Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos end the Chiefs’ four-year reign as AFC West champions.

“You know in the NFL somebody’s going to win a division and we’re going to be shocked,” Cowherd said. “Don’t be shocked if Denver beats Kansas City. Not saying Kansas City is plummeting. Maybe a little Super Bowl winning hangover, they go back to 11 wins. Denver wins 12, it’s not crazy. I think Drew Lock is the next ‘pop guy’ in this league.”

Coincidentally, Chiefs coach Andy Reid was a visitor on Cowherd’s show on Friday, and ‘Big Red’ apparently heard about Cowherd’s prediction.

It came after Cowherd asked if Reid had been spending downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic drawing up new plays.

“Yeah, that’s what we do, and so I’ve had a lot of time to do it,” Reid said. “I love doing that part of it. We’ve got some good stuff and the challenge is to keep challenging Patrick (Mahomes) and to keep him growing, to give him that opportunity. Players hate to be sitting there stagnant.

“One thing you love doing as a coach is just finding that one more thing that you can get to even make them greater than they already are. That’s what we do and we enjoy doing it, and I’ve had a lot of time to do it and we’ve got some really good stuff, man. I can’t wait.”

“I know you’re picking the Denver Broncos but I can’t wait to jump in and get this thing rolling.”

Cowherd laughed and said he has time to amend his pick. Reid, who was wearing — you guessed it — a Hawaiian shirt, didn’t let that answer slide.

“I thought I’d put this shirt on to kind of remind you that it’s time to go almost, and that you get the right team right,” Reid said.

Cowherd followed up by asking Reid if he’d had barbecue before arriving in Kansas City.

Reid said he had a Hibachi in the backyard when he lived in Los Angeles, but KC barbecue is on another level. Reid also made mention of the American Royal World Series of Barbecue and a KC barbecue goal that remains unfulfilled.

“This is big time,” Reid said. “I’m trying to find one — and this is a real goal — I’m trying to find one that I don’t like. They all are phenomenal and terrible for my waistline, but they take great pride in that here. It’s really fun to be around.

“They take our parking lot up here once a year and they have this contest and I’m begging to be a judge in one of those. They won’t let me. I think they’re afraid I’m going to eat all the product.”

Here is the conversation, and Reid pokes fun at Cowherd at the 6:50 mark:
