Here are highlights of Royals’ first-round pick, Texas A&M pitcher Asa Lacy
During a video conference call with reporters after the first round of Wednesday’s Major League Baseball draft, Royals general manager Dayton Moore said he heard nothing but good things about Texas A&M pitcher Asa Lacy.
“When you go around and you ask the questions that we asked this year because of the abbreviated evaluation process,” Moore said, “and you talk to all the elite, veteran head coaches at the major colleges, (Vanderbilt baseball coach) Tim Corbin said it tonight, that there hasn’t been a more impactful pitcher in the SEC in the last 18 years. And that was the common theme of every SEC head coach and assistant coach that we spoke to.”
The Royals chose Lacy with the fourth overall pick, and the Royals received an A grade from Bleacher Report.
Lacy had a 0.75 ERA in 24 innings pitched this season, which was shortened by the coronavirus pandemic. He struck out 46 with eight walks.
