For Pete's Sake

Fox Sports KC will air old All-Star Games featuring breakout performances by Royals

It seems unlikely there will be a Major League Baseball All-Star Game this season, but Royals fans will have the opportunity to watch classic Midsummer Classic games.

Fox Sports Kansas City will be airing a pair of All-Star Games each Sunday in the month of June. Many feature heroics by Royals stars like Bo Jackson, George Brett and Salvador Perez. All-Star Games going back to the 1960s will be shown as well.

Here is the schedule.

Sunday

6 p.m.: The 1989 All-Star Game in which Bo Jackson was the game’s MVP. He led off for the AL with a blast to straight-away center field. Jackson also had a single, stolen base and RBI groundout.

8:30 p.m.: The game from 1965 doesn’t feature any Kansas City A’s, but Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Pete Rose, Juan Marichal, Roberto Clemente and Sandy Koufax all played in the game.

June 14

5:30 p.m.: George Brett got the start in the 1985 All-Star Game and knocked in the only run of the game for the American League.

8 p.m.: The 2016 All-Star Game in San Diego was a decidedly Royals affair. Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer and Eric Hosmer had a solo shot and RBI single. Hosmer was the game’s MVP. Ned Yost was the manager.

June 21

5:30 p.m.: While many of the nation’s baseball fans seethed, Royals fans quickly learned how to vote early and often for their favorite players for the 2015 All-Star Game. Although #VoteOmar didn’t result in Omar Infante getting in the game, the Royals had three starters (Perez, Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain) and four reserves (Mike Moustakas, Alex Gordon, Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera). Cain went 2 for 3 with an RBI double. Yost was the manager.

8:30 p.m.: With all apologies to Amos Otis and Cookie Rojas, who were the Royals players in the 1971 All-Star Game, the big moment in this game came when Reggie Jackson hit a home run off the Tiger Stadium roof.

June 28

5 p.m.: George Brett was a reserve at first base for the 1988 Midsummer Classic and Mark Gubicza came on in relief in the American League’s victory. Shortstop Kurt Stillwell also made an appearance.

8 p.m.: Brett had a pair of hits in the 1978 All-Star Game, including an RBI double, stole a base and hit a sacrifice fly. Teammate Freddie Patek started and had a single. Frank White appeared in the game and Whitey Herzog was a coach.

Fox Sports Kansas City also will show regular-season Royals games from last year. They will air next Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. Here is what schedule:

Monday: Royals at Nationals from July 5, 2019

Wednesday: Royals at Braves from July 24, 2019

Friday: Royals at Tigers from Aug. 10, 2019
