For Pete's Sake

Cornerback Steven Nelson makes pointed remarks about Chiefs and fans in Kansas City

Saints quarterback Drew Brees apologized Thursday for comments about why he wouldn’t protest during the playing of the national anthem.

Players from around the NFL had expressed their displeasure with Brees, including some Chiefs.

Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was among those who tweeted about Brees. Mathieu also apologized to former Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall, who had been criticized for kneeling during the playing of the national anthem.

“I’m sorry I didn’t stand taller with you,” Mathieu wrote. “I’m sorry man!”

Former Chiefs defensive back Steven Nelson saw that tweet and took note of the reaction in Kansas City that former teammate Marcus Peters received after protesting during the national anthem in 2017. Peters was traded after the season.

Nelson followed that with some other thoughts and interactions with fans, some in Kansas City.

Nelson left the Chiefs after the 2018 season as a free agent and signed a three-year, $25.5 million contract with the Steelers. He played at Oregon State for two seasons after starting his college career at the College of the Sequoias.

That football background makes it seem Nelson was talking about Kansas City here, too:

That led to another round of give-and-take with Chiefs fans:
