Chiefs players, Royals players, Sporting, other teams share #BlackoutTuesday posts
Social media users likely noticed the hashtags #BlackoutTuesday and #BlackoutDay2020 were trending.
Per Deadline, the idea behind those hashtags started Friday as entertainment companies hoped Tuesday would be “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community” and “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change.”
It is in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week, and the plan was to take a day away from sharing content on social media.
A number of sports teams, both locally and across the nation, took part, as did sports media companies.
