Two national media members share reasons why Chiefs could be NFL’s next dynasty
Earlier this week, Adam Schein of the NFL Network listed nine teams that could be the league’s next dynasty.
At No. 1 is the Chiefs, who are coming off a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
This is part of what Schein wrote about the Chiefs: “After all, had Dee Ford just lined up on the right side of the line of scrimmage, the Chiefs would currently be back-to-back champions. (Yes, I absolutely believe Kansas City would have beaten the Rams in Super Bowl LIII.)
“Frankly, the Patrick Mahomes Chiefs dynasty feels like it’s already underway. Still just 24 years old, Mahomes capped off his first season as a starter by earning league MVP and his second by snagging Super Bowl MVP. Simply put, he’s the best show in sports today. And he’s only going to get better. Good luck stopping this generational talent — especially now that his Chiefs just exorcised multiple demons. Remember all that talk about how Andy Reid can’t win the big one? How K.C. is doomed to an eternity of postseason disappointment? No longer.”
The ghosts of past playoff failures are now gone, and the future looks bright.
Schein isn’t the only one talking about a Chiefs winning more Lombardi trophies.
Fox Sports’ Nick Wright, who grew up in Kansas City and admittedly is a Chiefs fan, gave five reasons why their road to becoming a dynasty has gotten easier this offseason.
Wright made his case Friday morning on “First Things First” on FS1.
“No. 5, no one traded for the Chiefs’ best defensive player, Chris Jones,” Wright said. “No. 4, no one in the AFC West signed (quarterback) Cam Newton. Well, we’ve got Drew Lock, Tyrod Taylor and Derek Carr. Who needs Cam Newton? No. 3, the Chiefs offense had their pick of the litter off all the running backs coming out of college, because no one drafted a running back before them. No. 2 (offensive coordinator) Eric Bieniemy, still there. And now No. 1, you give another rule to the offense, with one of the greatest offenses ever.”
The latter is in reference to a potential NFL rule change that would allow teams to forgo trying an onside kick by running a fourth-and-15 play from their own 25-yard line. It could only be done twice a game, but Wright thinks it would give the Chiefs offense a chance to keep the ball.
Here is Wright on the potential of a Chiefs dynasty:
