For Pete's Sake

MLB Network planning a George Brett marathon in honor of Royals legend’s birthday

Here’s a binge watching option for Royals fans: George Brett.

Yep, just Brett. Well, he’s the focus.

Friday is the Hall of Famer’s 67th birthday, and if you haven’t taken the time to read Vahe Gregorian’s column about Brett and his chase for a .400 season, here’s the link.

In honor of Brett’s birthday, the MLB Network will dedicate 11 hours of programming Friday to Brett. Here is the schedule:

1 p.m.: Studio 42 with Bob Costas. Brett talks to Costas about his career, being awarded the 1980 AL MVP, the pine tar incident and winning the 1985 World Series.

2 p.m.: ALCS Game 3 (Toronto Blue Jays at Royals). This is Brett’s great postseason game as he had two home runs as part of a four-hit day, helping the Royals get a much-needed win by beating Toronto 6-5. Brett scored the winning run as the Royals rallied from a 5-2 deficit.

5 p.m.: MLB Tonight. The show will have Brett as a guest. Greg Amsinger, Carlos Peña and Dan Plesac are the co-hosts.

6 p.m.: MLB Network Presents: Royal in Kansas City, 30 Years Later. This documentary first aired in 2015 and “examines baseball in Kansas City through the Royals’ 1985 and 2015 World Series titles.”

9 p.m.: Royals at New York Yankees, July 24, 1983. This is likely Brett’s most famous game as he, um, expressed his displease after being called out for having too much pine tar on his bat.
