Former NFL cornerback wants to race Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill (and give Hill a head start)

A year ago, the much-hyped “40 Yards of Gold” race was held in Sunrise, Florida, and former NFL receiver Chad Johnson expected the race to be an annual event.

“Watch what happens next year,” Johnson told the Sun Sentinel. “We’re going to have to turn guys away.”

Blame it on the coronavirus or the lack of payment to participants, but the event quietly disappeared.

One of the people who was expected to take part in last year’s race was former NFL cornerback Charles James II.

James, who played with the Texans, Colts and Giants from 2013-16, apparently didn’t end up running, but he has a high opinion of his speed. On Tuesday, he tweeted at Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill about a foot race.

It began when Hill had shared about a video of his 200-meter dash race in high school. James decided to poke the bear, er, cheetah:

Hill was ready to go ...

James, who ran a 4.44-second 40, responded with what had to be a joke:

Steelers linebacker Vince Williams responded to that with a meme from “The Office,” which Hill retweeted while sending another message to James:

James seemed to come to his senses as he and Hill had a laugh on Twitter:

During the exchange, James also tweeted about a lost clip of running down Hill, which could have been his way of saying he knows he couldn’t beat Hill, who has run a 4.29-second 40:
