Major League Baseball team to host ‘drive-in’ music concerts outside its stadium
At some point, the Texas Rangers will begin play at Globe Life Field.
But because the coronavirus has put the Major League Baseball season on hold, there have been no regular-season games at the Rangers’ new home stadium.
So instead there will be a four-day concert series in a parking lot outside the stadium in June.
“Think concert meets drive-in movie,” the Rangers said on their website.
The “concert in your car,” will feature four bands over four nights:
The Rangers said it will be one ticket per car and every other parking space will be empty “to ensure sufficient distance between you and surrounding vehicles.” Concert-goers will be required to stay in their vehicles.
That includes no sitting in the bed of a truck, the roof of a car, in chairs next to the car or blankets on the ground.
Audio for the shows, which will last one hour, will be transmitted via FM radio.
What if nature calls? Precautions will be taken.
“A limited number of restrooms will be available for use and guests who need to use the facilities must follow social distancing restrictions and instructional signs,” the Rangers said on their website. “Restroom use will be limited to one adult at a time. Small children may be accompanied by an adult. Handicap restrooms will be available, and all restrooms will be monitored by a housekeeping attendant to ensure surfaces are cleaned after each use.”
If this event is successful, one has to wonder if the idea will spread to other cities. There would seem to be plenty of room at the Truman Sports Complex for drive-in concerts.
