Michael Jordan teared up while talking about pushing his teammates in ‘Last Dance’
ESPN’s documentary on former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan has delved into his competitive drive and how he pushed his teammates to improve.
There have been scenes in “The Last Dance” that showed Jordan berating his teammates during practice, and he was asked about that drive to be the best by the filmmakers in Episode 7, which aired Sunday night.
Jordan got emotional and had to take a break.
But before that point, Jordan said: “When people see this, they’re gonna say, ‘Well, he wasn’t really a nice guy, he may have been a tyrant.’ Well, that’s you, because you never won anything. I wanted to win, but I wanted them to win and be a part of that as well.
“Look, I don’t have to do this. I’m only doing it because it is who I am. That’s how I played the game. That was my mentality. If you don’t want to play that way, don’t play that way.”
Jordan then stood up and said: “Break.”
It was a rare look into the person Jordan is and his drive to be the very best. It’s part of the reason Jordan won six NBA titles.
