Chiefs’ offensive position groups get almost all A’s in NFL Network rankings

No one would question the assertion that the Chiefs’ offense is one of the most prolific in the NFL.

That was affirmed by Chris Wesseling of the NFL Network, who ranked the league’s 10 best offenses. The Chiefs are atop the list, but nipping at their heels are the Baltimore Ravens.

“As I survey the landscape of NFL offenses this offseason, I see the Chiefs and Ravens pulling away from the pack,” Wesseling wrote. “Can (Tampa Bay’s Tom) Brady and (Indianapolis’ Philip) Rivers reclaim some of that turf with the help of new — and plausibly superior — supporting casts?”

We’ll learn the answer to that question in the fall. But Wesseling makes it clear with his grades for each offensive position group (quarterbacks, running backs, receivers/tight ends and offensive line) that the Chiefs are loaded.

Wesseling gave the Chiefs’ quarterbacks, led by Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, an A-plus, and two other units got A’s, too. The offensive line was given a B.

“While (Mitchell) Schwartz may be the best right tackle in football, the rest of the line operates at a high enough level with little fanfare to show for it,” Wesseling wrote. “With (Mike) Remmers on hand as a utility lineman and (Lucas) Niang drafted in the third round, this unit is in a better position to withstand a major injury in 2020.”
