CBS announces Dan Fouts’ replacement as part of No. 2 NFL broadcast team
Less than a month after dropping analyst Dan Fouts from its coverage of NFL games, CBS Sports on Tuesday announced his replacement.
Former Fox Sports NFL analyst Charles Davis will take Fouts’ spot alongside play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle as CBS Sports’ No. 2 NFL team.
“I have long admired Charles as one of the best NFL analysts on the air,” CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a news release. “We are thrilled to have him join CBS Sports and bolster our already deep and talented NFL ON CBS broadcast team. Pairing Charles with Ian Eagle will strengthen our roster, and we look forward to this team being one of the best on television.”
Davis had worked with Kevin Burkhardt as Fox Sports’ No. 2 NFL team. The New York Post reported that Fox hopes Davis’ replacement will be Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen once his playing days are over. In the meantime, the Post reported, Chris Spielman or Daryl Johnston may be moved alongside Burkhardt.
When Fouts was let go by CBS Sports, former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green had been mentioned as a possible replacement. Green, 50, has worked regular-season games with Greg Gumbel since joining CBS in 2014 and apparently will continue in that role.
The Eagle-Fouts team worked four of the Chiefs’ games last year, while Davis and Burkhardt called a pair of Kansas City contests.
“I’ve been blessed throughout my career to work with some exceptional play-by-play broadcasters and getting to work with Ian Eagle continues my great fortune,” Davis said in a release.
