Oddsmakers like Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s chances to win Offensive Rookie of Year award
After the Chiefs selected LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the final pick of the NFL Draft, general manager Brett Veach was asked what role the rookie might play.
Could Edwards-Helaire be a feature back like Jamaal Charles or Kareem Hunt?
“I think because of the type of offense that we are, I do,” Veach said. “I think if we were a more traditional two-tight end set, power run game, certainly there would be some questions. But I think the way we can spread teams out and make them play east and west, and the threat of our vertical passing game, and again, this kid’s low center of gravity, his ability to make people miss. I think just the way our offense is constructed I think this guy will thrive in it and I think he’ll be able to handle the workload.”
Oddsmakers also believe Edwards-Helaire will thrive.
William Hill U.S. lists Edwards-Helaire as having the second-best chance of winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award at 6-1 odds. New Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the favorite (11-4), while Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is at 8-1 , and Colts running back Jonathan Taylor (12-1) rounds out the top four.
