Royals great Bret Saberhagen appears on ‘Price is Right’ with guy who shoots his shot
Royals Hall of Famer Bret Saberhagen tried his hand at something new: game-show co-host.
Saberhagen, who pitched for the Royals from 1984-’91, appeared on Monday’s edition of “The Price Is Right” and revealed one of the Showcase Showdowns.
The show’s announcer, George Gray, introduced Saberhagen: “We are really, really, really lucky to have with us not a one, but two-time Cy Young Award winner and World Series MVP, please give it up for Bret Saberhagen.”
“First you’ll get a chance to see a game at a stadium that has had so many great memories for me, Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City,” Saberhagen told the contestant, Kristine.
That included a round-trip flight from Los Angeles to Kansas City and two tickets to a game, along with a hotel stay “near the historic River Market.”
“Now there are 162 games in a Major League Baseball season and you’ll have a great view of all of them on your ... big-screen TV,” Saberhagen said as the second prize was revealed.
After a description of the television, Saberhagen said: “Finally you can say your last prize is a grand-slam ... it’s your brand-new car.”
Kristine, the contestant, bet $22,300 and the actual price was $32,792, which means she lost by $55.
The other contestant, Jasmine, won trips to Paris and Nepal.
As you can see, Saberhagen wore a Royals cap and jersey:
The best moment in the show came when contestants spun the wheel for the second time. This guy asked his girlfriend to give him another shot and won the admiration of host Drew Carey.
It’s possible this is comedian Chris D’Elia, but I couldn’t tell for certain. It was a funny moment.
