For Pete's Sake

Tony Gonzalez tweets about a comeback with the Chiefs, and some fans are all for it

This likely is all a joke or maybe a publicity stunt, but some Chiefs fans were intrigued.

On Tuesday, former Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez tweeted a video of catching passes in his backyard and wrote: “Don’t call it a comeback, @Chiefs. I am ready! Let’s go!!!!”

The tweet came after reports that tight end Rob Gronkowski will end his retirement after being traded by the Patriots to Tampa Bay, where he will be reunited with quarterback Tom Brady.

Gonzalez said in the video: “I saw Gronk talking about coming back and I said to myself, ‘Hey, me too baby.’ I’m coming back. Kansas City Chiefs, double tight-end set. Me, Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Patrick Mahomes, Sammy Watkins, great defense, going back-to-back Super Bowls, baby.”

Here is the tweet:

Gonzalez is 44 years old and last played in the NFL in 2013 when as a member of the Falcons he made the Pro Bowl for the 14th time. In 12 seasons with the Chiefs, Gonzalez had 916 catches for 10,940 yards and 76 touchdowns.

Shortly before the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV, Gonzalez was picked for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

All of that would lead a person to believe Gonzalez really won’t be coming back, but some Chiefs fans were in favor of seeing No. 88 on the field again.
