For Pete's Sake

Dan Fouts reportedly dropped by CBS, which eyes ex-Chiefs player as replacement

CBS Sports reportedly is making a change to its No. 2 broadcast team for NFL games.

The New York Post and the Athletic reported Dan Fouts is being let go by CBS. Fouts, who will turn 69 in June, had worked with Ian Eagle for the past 10 years.

Fouts’ contract was up at the end of the season, the Post said, and CBS is hoping to lure his replacement from Fox: Charles Davis. If not, CBS is considering former Chiefs quarterback Trent Green to work as analyst with Eagle.

After retiring following a 15-year Hall of Fame career with the San Diego Chargers, Fouts joined CBS in 1988 and worked with Dick Stockton and Verne Lundquist.

Fouts left for ABC in 1997 and worked on “Monday Night Football” games for a while. He also called games with Brent Musburger (and made a memorable cameo in “The Waterboy”). After returning to CBS in 2008, Fouts worked with Dick Enberg, then joined Eagle in 2010.

Green, who turns 50 in June, played six seasons with the Chiefs, and has worked Kansas City preseason contests. CBS Sports has also used him for regular season games and he has called games with Greg Gumbel. Green joined CBS in 2014.

Fan reaction to Fouts’ departure was mixed:
