Brian Westbrook made ardent case for Chiefs’ Andy Reid being on NFL all-decade team
Brian Westbrook played eight of his nine seasons with the Eagles, and his coach the entire time in Philadelphia was Andy Reid.
After being let go by the Eagles, Reid joined the Chiefs in 2013 and turned around a franchise that had won just two games a season earlier.
That is why Westbrook believes Reid and not Seattle’s Pete Carroll should have been on the NFL’s all-decade team. There were six Chiefs players on the team, although two made small impacts (Darrelle Revis and LeSean McCoy).
Still, the Chiefs’ half-dozen players was second-most among NFL teams, and Westbrook thinks Reid was responsible for getting the best out of those players.
“He took a Kansas City Chiefs team that was 2-14 when he got there. He had a bunch of Pro-Bowlers but they didn’t know how to play together,” Westbrook said on “First Things First.” “That was 2-14. He brought that team into a situation where they have won double-digit games for the next seven of eight years, except for 2014, and a Super Bowl as well.
“Nick (Wright) talks about all the players on the all-decade team and a lot of that has to do with the guidance and the leadership that Andy Reid brought to that organization. You have to have him on that list if you’re talking about all-decade team as well as coaches.”
