These 12 mock NFL Drafts show little commonality in who the Chiefs might pick

Barring something unusual* happening during the first round of the NFL Draft on April 23, the Cincinnati Bengals will select quarterback Joe Burrow first overall.

*Honestly, with the whole draft being done at the homes of team officials and coaches, the whole thing will be strange

The last pick in the first round? That’s anyone’s guess. And with April being mock draft season, there are plenty of people offering their thoughts on who the Chiefs will select at No. 32.

One thing is for certain: there is much uncertainty. Here is a look at 12 mock drafts, which have the Chiefs taking nine different players:

John Clayton of the Washington Post believes the Chiefs will take LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton. Here is part of what Clayton wrote: “They might look at Taylor to boost their running back options, but Fulton makes more sense because he would fill the Super Bowl champions’ biggest need.”

Maurice Jones-Drew of the NFL Network predicted the Chiefs picking LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He wrote: “The most high-powered offense in the league lands a play-making running back who will impact this unit with and without the ball.”

Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports predicted the Chiefs would select Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell. He wrote: “The Chiefs badly need a cornerback, someone who can start Week 1. Enter Terrell, who isn’t a ball hawk but has experience shadowing No. 1 wide receivers.”

Cynthia Freuland of the NFL Network believes the Chiefs will select Clemson’s Terrell. This is part of what she wrote: “Boosting the CB group creates the most value for the Chiefs overall, and Terrell’s Clemson resume projects for high value in a Steve Spagnuolo defense.”

Sports Illustrated’s Jamie Eisner predicted the Chiefs would pick Alabama corner Trevon Diggs. This is part of what he wrote: “Diggs is a perfect fit for Kansas City as a boundary corner. His length and physicality should serve him well against wide receivers like Courtland Sutton, Mike Williams, etc. in the division. As a former wide receiver, Diggs has strong ball skills, which will help him generate turnovers.”

Charley Casserly of the NFL Network has the Chiefs selecting Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette. He wrote before the Chiefs signed Sammy Watkins: “The defending champs could go OL, DE or WR (especially if they part ways with Sammy Watkins), but CB is a definite need.”

Jordan Dejani of CBS Sports sees the Chiefs taking TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney. He wrote: “The Chiefs need cornerbacks and Gladney is as skilled as he is competitive.”

Evan Silva of Establish The Run predicted the Chiefs picking a different TCU defensive player:

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network has the Chiefs selecting Michigan center Cesar Ruiz. He wrote: “The Chiefs could have their choice of the top running backs, but they also need to get younger/better along the interior of their offensive line.”

Yardbarker’s Seth Trachtman believes the Chiefs will grab LSU’s Fulton. He wrote, in part: “Fulton has been a lockdown cornerback at LSU and certainly has the upside to return great value immediately.”

CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson had the Chiefs selecting Wisconsin linebacker Zach Baun. Here is part of what he wrote: “Kansas City could choose to trade out of this pick, but Baun could be an option too. He was an edge rusher at Wisconsin but has the ability to play on the weakside too.”

The NFL Network’s Charles Davis also thinks the Chiefs will pick Baun. He wrote: “I gave Kansas City a runner last time (and that move still makes a lot of sense to me), but here’s a chance for the Chiefs to continue to upgrade their defense.”
