Chiefs may benefit from delay to offseason programs, says ex-NFL defensive lineman
Monday was scheduled to be the day NFL teams with a head coach hired after the 2019 regular season could start holding their offseason workouts.
That was set to be two weeks earlier than other teams could start their own workouts. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of that has been put on hold.
A delay because of the coronavirus could be beneficial to the Chiefs, says former Eagles defensive end Chris Long.
Long, who was part of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LII championship team, explained why while talking with The Ringer’s Kevin Clark on “Slow News Day.”
“You look at a team like the Chiefs, OK? You win a Super Bowl, generally you burn out, you’re physically tired,” Long said. “This might actually give them time to rest.
“A lot of the times you get back in the building after you win a Super Bowl and the coaches beat it in your head that ‘Hey, you’re gonna be complacent,’ this, that and the third,” Long said. “And it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
“I think a break from everything couldn’t be the worst thing for some of these teams. I think that teams with established programs are going to thrive right now.”
