Tyrann Mathieu on why Tyreek Hill should be regarded as one of NFL’s elite receivers

Oddsmakers currently show the Baltimore Ravens as the Chiefs’ top threat in the AFC, which should come as little surprise.

The Ravens had the best record in the AFC last season, and quarterback Lamar Jackson won the NFL MVP award.

When Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu joined ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday, he was asked by Stephen A. Jackson which AFC team KC needed to look out for most.

“I think every team we should watch out for,” Mathieu said. “But I think you’ve got to look at a team like the Baltimore Ravens. First of all, you’ve got to look at the guy that’s really leading that ship in Lamar Jackson. He’s so humble, he’s so hungry, and the sky’s the limit for him, and I think he’ll continue to push the team, that franchise to really great heights.

“You look at some of the pieces they were able to add the last couple of days in free agency, I think they are trying to make a run for it. I definitely see the Ravens in there, but never take lightly, really, any opponent in the NFL.”

Max Kellerman pivoted and asked if Tyreek Hill was perhaps underrated.

Mathieu explained why he sees Hill as an elite player.

“In my opinion, he’s definitely one of the best receivers in football,” Mathieu said. “I’ve had a chance to practice against him, go up against him in one-on-ones, no cameras, and he’s crafty. I think a lot of times, that gets overshadowed just simply by his speed.

“You’ve got to understand, a lot of times, when he lines up, he’s lining up in two-man coverages, Cover-2 coverages, so his route combinations get limited in a sense.”

Hill has made the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons and has two 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Here is Mathieu’s appearance on ESPN, and he also talked about quarterback Tom Brady moving to Tampa Bay:
