Texans trade All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona Cardinals
The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Texans in the 2020 season but won’t have to contend with three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Hopkins, who wants a new contract, was traded Monday to the Arizona Cardinals, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported. The Cardinals traded running back David Johnson and a second-round draft pick this year and a fourth-rounder in 2021 to Houston for Hopkins and a fourth-round choice.
Over the past three seasons, the 27-year-old Hopkins has averaged 105 catches, 1,372 yards and 10 touchdowns per year. He was chosen first-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl in each season.
Johnson, 28, rushed for 1,239 yards in the 2016 season for the Cardinals, but he has since played in just 26 games. During that span he has run for 1,308 yards in 363 carries (3.6 yards per attempt) and nine touchdowns.
For the Cardinals, Hopkins gives quarterback Kyler Murray a new favorite target.
Chiefs players were stunned by the move:
