For Pete's Sake

Chris Jones posts cryptic tweet with Chiefs poised to put franchise tag on him

One of the big question marks facing the Chiefs this offseason is what will be happen to defensive lineman Chris Jones.

Jones is considered one of the top interior defensive linemen in the NFL and pondered a holdout last summer before reporting to training camp. He’s expecting a big payday, but the Chiefs don’t have that much room under the salary cap.

That’s why the team is likely to use its franchise tag on Jones in the near future.

Once the tag is official, the Chiefs and Jones will have until July 15 to agree to a long-term contract. If no deal is reached, Jones can sign the deal and play the 2020 season under the franchise designation. Or he could hold out.

A third possibility is the Chiefs could trade Jones, and the team could seemingly get a good return.

With all of these options out there, Jones threw fans a curveball with one tweet. He quoted a song by rapper Kevin Gates: “hope that they know that I love em but, all good things must come to an end”.

Is Jones merely quoting the song? Or is there more to it? Fans will be left to guess, for now.
