Utah Jazz player who tested positive for coronavirus had joked about spreading it
This joke didn’t seem funny to everyone on Monday and now it makes Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert look foolish.
On Monday, Gobert talked with reporters in a media room rather than in the locker room as the NBA (and other pro leagues) tried to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
Gobert thought the move was an overreaction, so when he was done talking to reporters, he began to walk away, then turned back and touched the microphones, reporters’ recorders and phones.
Here is the moment:
On Wednesday night, the NBA announced it was postponing its season after a Jazz player tested positive for the coronavirus.
The player who tested positive? Gobert.
Here’s guessing the reporters are going to be checked for the virus.
UPDATE: Ben Anderson of KSLSports.com said he received a notice from the Utah Department of Health regarding Gobert’s actions. It said there was a low risk of exposure based on Gobert’s actions.
However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said another Jazz player, Donovan Mitchell, also tested positive for coronavirus. “Jazz players privately say that Rudy Gobert had been careless in the locker room touching other players and their belongings,” Wojnarowski tweeted.
