Joel Embiid flips the bird at Hawks player who stole ball late in 76ers’ blowout win
Oh sure, someone could make a connection between this and the brouhaha at the end of the Sunflower Showdown men’s basketball game last month.
In that game, K-State’s DaJuan Gordon stole the ball from KU’s Silvio De Sousa, who was dribbling out the final seconds of a Jayhawks victory. A brawl ensued shortly after that indiscretion.
On Monday, former KU star Joel Embiid was dribbling out the final seconds of the 76ers’ 129-112 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Embiid had reason to be cheerful, because he scored 49 points (on 17 of 24 shooting) with 14 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Atlanta’s Kevin Huerter swooped in from behind and stole the ball. Embiid looked at Huerter in disbelief and then flipped him the bird.
The broadcast anyalst asked: “Did he get Leon Lett-ed there?”
“I want to say sorry for what I did at the end of the game. You probably saw that on TV,” Embiid told a reporter after the game. “I’m sorry. Thank you.”
