For Pete's Sake

Madison Bumgarner has had a secret second job for years: competing in rodeos

The Facebook post is from Dec. 3, and the tall, bearded guy in the plaid shirt and cap sure looks like he could be Madison Bumgarner’s doppelgänger.

As it turns out, the photos in the Rancho Rio post about a team roping competition are of Bumgarner.

The share text with the post from the rodeo competition says: “Jaxson Tucker & Mason Saunders took home the biggest paycheck of the day topping the #12.5 Big Gamble. The duo roped four steers in 31.36 seconds to pocket $26,560 in CASH!“

Mason Saunders, it seems, is Bumgarner, the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, as he confirmed to The Athletic.

“Oh boy,” Bumgarner told the Athletic. “This is ruining my alias.”

That wasn’t his first rodeo. Last March, Saunders took part in the Team Roping Tour’s National Finals, and he was in Guthrie, Oklahoma for the Guthrie Shootout in 2016.

Bumgarner told the Athletic he devised his alias by using the maiden name of his wife, Ali, while “Mason” is a shortened version of Madison.

“(It’s) something for my wife to call me when we were out in public to keep people from recognizing me,” Bumgarner told The Athletic. “But you’re going to ruin that for me.”

Here are photos from that Facebook post that busted Bumgarner:
