For Pete's Sake

Defensive lineman Chris Jones called this Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory one year ago

Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones was watching the Patriots put the finishing touches on a Super Bowl victory a year ago when he took to Twitter with a bold promise.

We will win it next year

Those six words likely won’t get Jones compared with Joe Namath’s guarantee of a Jets victory in Super Bowl III, but Jones didn’t care.

“One thousand percent I did, I told the fans last year, when this game was going on, next year, we will win it. And guess what? I delivered. I delivered,” Jones said. “You must manifest success. You must manifest success. I manifested it.”

Here is that tweet:

Jones also rattled off so many thank yous he resembled an actor at the Academy Awards.

“I told (general manager) Brett Veach, he keep on with this (and) he can go in the Hall of Fame as one of the best GMs in the league, baby. Coach (Andy) Reid, man I’m glad he got this for his sake. He’s been at this 22 years. Twenty-two years, man. You stay in this game 22 years, year in and out ... and you finally get over that hump,” Jones said.

“I want to thank everyone from Coach Spags (defensive coordinator Steve Spanguolo) for coming in to T5 (Tyrann Mathieu) to Frank Clark, my brother, I love that boy. To my coach, Brendan Daly. You’re so special to this group. To my DB coach, you were amazing tonight even though you had to calm me down tonight, thank you. I want to say thank you to everybody on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive coaches that I didn’t announce. ...

“To the organization of the Chiefs and the third-floor guys that you never see, thank y’all. To the second floor guys that I always see, thank y’all. To the first floor, the media, (vice president of communications) Ted Crews, thank y’all, because everybody played a part in this. To the head scout Ryne Nutt, thank you.

“Most importantly, I thank the Hunt family for giving a kid from Mississippi State an opportunity to play on this team.”

A media relations person then said the time for questions was over and Jones gave a parting message:

“Sack Nation out.”
