Andy Reid had a former Cowboys coach speak to Chiefs after Wednesday’s practice
Chiefs coach Andy Reid had a special visitor speak to the team after Wednesday’s Super Bowl LIV practice.
Practices at the Super Bowl are closed to the media with the exception of a pool reporter, who is assigned to each team as designated by the Pro Football Writers Association. That person shares a recap with all media.
According to pool reporter Dan Pompei of the Pro Football Writers of America, members of the Fox Sports crew covering the game were on hand, including Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Erin Andrews and Jimmy Johnson, who won two Super Bowls as Dallas Cowboys coach.
Johnson, who was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this month, spoke to the team at Reid’s request, Pompei said.
“I competed against him and always respected him,” Reid told Pompei.
Reid was an assistant coach for the Packers during Johnson’s final two years as Cowboys head coach. Dallas went 3-1 against Green Bay in that time, including a pair of playoff victories.
The practice, which was held at the Dolphins’ training facility in Davie, was the first to require an injury report.
Pompei reported the Chiefs had full participation in their 90-minute session and tight end Travis Kelce was “fine” and defensive lineman Chris Jones was “good to go,” per Reid. Both players are expected to practice Thursday.
It was a warm day, but not humid.
“They loved it,” Reid told Pompei. “They got a little sunshine, so they loved it.”
49ers practice
Pool reporter Jenny Vrentas of the Pro Football Writers of America reported that running back Tevin Coleman returned to practice. He was listed as a limited participant. Linebacker Kwon Alexander (pectoral) and safety Jaquiski Tartt (ribs) were also listed as limited, Vrentas said.
“They all got to go,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told Vrentas. “I’m expecting them to be good by Sunday.”
