For Pete's Sake

Chiefs Kingdom already making its presence felt in Florida ahead of Super Bowl LIV

The Southwest Airlines pilot had finished telling passengers on Flight 3480 into Fort Lauderdale, Florida the time and temperature when he paused to add one more thought.

“Go Chiefs!”

Cheering erupted in spots throughout the plane, which had left Kansas City earlier on Sunday. People wore Chiefs hats and AFC Champion T-shirts and there was at least one red-and-yellow neck pillow.

Some even had pompoms. Those were carried by members of the Chiefs cheerleaders who made the trip for Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

At the baggage claim in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, two women held an oversized cardboard football and said welcome to the Super Bowl. At that point, a few cries of “Go Chiefs” broke out.

However, not everyone on the flight had football on the mind. Four-year-old Sawyer Franks and her parents had flown from Lee’s Summit to Florida for a Disney Cruise.

“It just kind of worked out being down here this week. It’s awesome,” said Sawyer’s father, Ben. “We’re flying back Super Bowl Sunday and will be home by 10 (a.m.)“

However, the Chiefs cheerleaders got Sawyer and her younger brother, Beckett, ready for football as they posed for photos and shared high-fives with the kids, who received an autographed photo of the cheerleaders.

Sawyer got in the spirit and started doing a one-girl version of “The Chop” to the delight of the cheerleaders.

Super Bowl LIV is still days away, but Chiefs fans are already doing their best to make South Florida their home away from home.
