Titans fan was ‘blown away by how well we were treated’ by Chiefs fans on Sunday
Chiefs fans were still celebrating the AFC Championship Game victory when a post appeared Monday on Reddit with this headline:
“Thanks for the fantastic experience (from a Titans fan)“
It was written by Colton Powell, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and made the trip to Arrowhead Stadium. While disappointed by the Chiefs’ 35-24 win, he was impressed with the treatment he received.
“Would have preferred a different outcome but still had an absolute blast,” Powell wrote in the post. “We’ve been going to Titans away games for years and were blown away by how well we were treated, especially given the magnitude of the game. Didn’t have one negative fan encounter the entire weekend — which is a first. You were all incredibly welcoming and had a perfect balance of light-hearted (trash) talk. Keep doing what you’re doing. Y’all are a pleasure to watch a football game with. Arrowhead definitely lives up to its hype. Congrats on the win and enjoy watching your boys in the Super Bowl! I’ll be pulling for y’all.”
Powell said in an email message that he drove to Kansas City on Saturday with his father and brothers, and made time for barbecue.
When the Chiefs were in victory formation in the waning seconds of Sunday’s game, Powell and his family left and braced for the worst.
“I was fully prepared to get an earful from every person we walked past on our way to the concourse,” he wrote. “Instead, the Chiefs fans were shaking our hands saying things like, ‘great season,’ ‘sorry about the loss,’ and ‘thanks for coming.’ That was pretty cool.”
Chiefs fans weren’t just kind to Powell at the end of the game. He said from start to finish it was a great visit.
“I’ve been to quite a few games as an away fan over the years and typically in my experience, the home fans are one of two extremes: they either don’t say a word to you the entire game, or they’re obnoxiously hostile,” Powell wrote. “I don’t really mind that. It’s just something you have to expect when you’re wearing the wrong jersey. Converse to that, the fans at Arrowhead were quite welcoming and enjoyable. ... I definitely didn’t feel like I was in enemy territory.”
On Tuesday, another Reddit user posted with the heading “Titans fan here.” This person also had praise for Chiefs fans.
The user, who is named grzwald, wrote: “Just wanted to congratulate y’all on the win. It’s been a long time coming and y’all deserve it. Just wanted to say I was at Arrowhead for the game. What an awesome stadium and the Chiefs fans were amazing. I’m talking about wishing us luck before the game even started, holding doors open, helping me crawl over the bleachers to my seat and just being all around decent people. Once again congrats and thanks for not being obnoxious jerks when the opportunity was readily available. Wish I could say that about Philadelphia. Good luck on the Super Bowl. (Patrick) Mahomes is so fun to watch, even when he’s beating us. TITAN UP and just this once.... GO CHIEFS”
