For Pete's Sake

Denver fans were mad that Broncos’ stadium sponsor saluted Chiefs on Super Bowl berth

The Denver Broncos play their games at Empower Field at Mile High under a deal reached last year.

The stadium’s naming rights were purchased by Empower Retirement, which is a retirement plan provider. Empower also is a corporate partner of the Chiefs, so it was only natural that the company would send its congratulations after Kansas City won the AFC Championship Game.

Broncos fans, however, weren’t happy to see this on Twitter:

Jess Place of Mile High Report wrote: “Empower sponsors not just the Broncos, but the Chiefs and Patriots as well, but come on! You have to have some awareness that the fan base on whose stadium your logo and name appear may not be overly enthusiastic about your full throated celebration of their division rival’s success.

“This is a hometown Colorado company? For real? Hometown Colorado companies don’t hashtag their tweets “#ChiefsKingdom.”

Fans on Twitter vented about the good wishes about the Chiefs making the Super Bowl. Here are some of the responses:
