Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who have irked KC fans in the past, will call Super Bowl
Do you think there is any chance Fox Sports NFL analyst Troy Aikman will make mention of his comment about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes?
In September, the Athletic tweeted that Mahomes had already thrown 36% of Aikman’s career touchdowns in about 8% of the games.
Aikman, the former Cowboys star, responded: “Talk to me when when he has 33% of my Super Bowl Titles”
Well ... he may see it for himself in Miami on Feb. 2. Aikman will be part of the Fox broadcast crew for Super Bowl LIV. During a 12-year career with Dallas, Aikman won three Super Bowls. So if the Chiefs beat the 49ers, Mahomes will have won 33% of Aikman’s Super Bowl titles.
Quite a coincidence, huh?
Some Chiefs fans weren’t happy with Aikman’s comment, but the outrage didn’t match the level Kansas City sports fans had for Aikman’s broadcast partner:
Joe Buck.
Buck will be the play-by-play announcer for Super Bowl LIV, and he didn’t endear himself to Royals fans during the 2014 World Series. Buck lavished praise on San Francisco pitcher Madison Bumgarner, who clinched the Giants’ victory in Game 7 with an epic relief appearance.
When the Royals returned to the World Series the following year, a Royals fan started a petition asking Fox to replace Buck as the announcer for the World Series.
Buck simply praised Royals fans for their passion and had a playful interaction on Twitter with one KC fan.
So, the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years will be called by two announcers who aren’t exactly beloved in Kansas City. Including one who lavished praise on a San Francisco sports team.
Just a guess: if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, it won’t matter who is broadcasting.
