Take a closer look at Lamar Hunt trophy, which goes to AFC Championship Game winner
The sad fact about the Lamar Hunt trophy is the Chiefs have never won it.
That’s the trophy given to the winner of the AFC Championship Game, and it was named for the Chiefs founder in 1984.
Chiefs chairman/CEO Clark Hunt mentioned the Lamar Hunt trophy while addressing the team in August.
“In terms of our goals, it’s pretty simple. It starts with winning the AFC championship,” Hunt told the team. “We were inches from getting that done last year. The first time we had hosted the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium, and those of you who were on the team know how that turned out. But this team can get back there and when we do we’re going to win that trophy.
“That trophy has my dad’s name on it, it’s something that’s very important to the organization. Once we do that, then we’re going to go to Miami and win the Lombardi Trophy, and anything less is not going to be a success.”
The Lamar Hunt trophy was shown to reporters during news conferences on Wednesday. You can get a better look at the trophy in the video above.
