One of NFL’s longest-tenured officials will be referee for AFC Championship Game
The referee who will work Sunday’s AFC Championship Game is one of the longest-serving officials in the NFL.
Tony Corrente, who is in his 25th year in the NFL, was assigned to the Chiefs-Titans game at Arrowhead Stadium. He wears No. 99.
According to FootballZebras.com, this will be Corrente’s 20th postseason game. Here is the breakdown: eight Wild Card games, five Divisional Round games, six Conference Championship games and Super Bowl XLI.
Earlier this month, Corrente was the referee for the Houston Texans’ win over the Buffalo Bills in a Wild Card Game.
Pro Football Reference shows that during the 2019 season, Corrente’s crew called 43.44% of their penalties on the home team, which won 56.3% of the games his crew worked.
Among the regular-season games worked by Corrente: the Chiefs’ 35-32 loss to the Titans in Nashville, Tennessee. In that game, Corrente’s crew called nine penalties for 80 yards on the Chiefs and eight penalties for 64 yards on the Titans.
