Cold temperatures and maybe snow in forecast for Chiefs’ playoff game against Texans
With flurries swirling in the air during a game last month against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had an epiphany.
“I think I’m a snow game guy,” Mahomes said.
Mahomes had thrown two touchdown passes in a 23-3 victory, so he had good reason to feel that way.
For Chiefs fans, Mahomes’ ability to play well in the snow might come in handy for Sunday’s AFC Divisional playoff game against the Houston Texans. But how the teams handle the cold will be more important.
Here is the forecast from seven outlets:
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the teens on Sunday morning. Here is what it wrote on its website: “A slight chance of snow between noon and 2 p.m., then a slight chance of drizzle after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%”
KSHB (Channel 41) meteorologist Jeff Penner wrote about the expected weather for the Chiefs-Texans game. This is a snippet from the station’s blog: “The weather at kickoff will be pretty decent considering what we have been dealing with today. It will be partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. ... (I)f it snows or sleets for a few minutes at the Chiefs game, don’t be surprised.” You can read more here.
Katie Horner, the meteorologist at KMBC (Ch. 9) said on Saturday’s broadcast: “Tomorrow for the Chiefs game, while you’re tailgating, temperatures will be around 11. By the end of the game, the temperature should be as warm as 38 degrees.”
Karli Ritter of Fox 4 said during Saturday morning’s broadcast: “Around the tail end of the game there may be a little wintry mix or some snow falling.” A high temperature of 35 degrees is expected.
KCTV-5 meteorologist Gary Amble said on the station’s webpage: “Sunday doesn’t look like picnic weather either, even though we will see slivers of sunshine, 30 degrees, it’s not bad, and the wind will be out of the south and fairly light.”
NFLweather.com is predicting 32 degrees under partly cloudy skies at kickoff with temperatures rising slightly during the game.
Weather.com is expecting a high of 39 degrees with “sunshine in the morning followed by cloudy skies during the afternoon.”
