Twitter map shows who fans in each state are cheering for in NFL divisional playoffs
The NFL is down to its Elite Eight, which means fans in a lot of states won’t be watching their favorite team in the playoffs.
What team will they be cheering for in the NFL’s divisional round of playoffs?
NFL specialists at the sports gambling site sportsbetting.ag analyzed geotagged Twitter data from across the country and determined which team fans in each state are hoping will win. There was nothing close to a consensus, although the Baltimore Ravens were the favorite in 13 states.
The 49ers have become the choice in the New England area since the Patriots were knocked out of the playoffs last weekend. Call it the Jimmy Garoppolo Factor as the former New England quarterback is with San Francisco, which is the favorite in 10 states.
The Chiefs and Packers are tied for third with eight states. For the Chiefs, the states are Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. Here is the map:
The map is based on Twitter data since the end of the Wild Card games, and the Sports Betting experts used “trends software with direct access to geotagged Twitter data.” They looked specifically at Twitter hashtags like #ChiefsKingdom, #ravensflock, etc.
Here is the breakdown by state:
Ravens: 13 states
49ers: 10 states
Chiefs: 8 states
Packers: 8 states
Seahawks: 4 states
Vikings: 3 states
Titans: 3 states
Texans: 1 state
