This is where Chiefs landed in NFL power rankings after regular-season finale
It was 51 days ago that the Chiefs left the field at Nissan Stadium in Nashville following a 35-32 loss to the Titans.
The Chiefs’ record dropped to 6-4 and some were questioning whether the Chiefs would even win the AFC West with the Raiders in hot pursuit. How silly were those people?
With a six-game winning streak to end 2019, including a victory over the Patriots at New England, the Chiefs not only won the West, but finished as the No. 2 seed. They are on a roll heading into the playoffs.
Here is where the Chiefs, 12-4, were placed in six NFL power rankings following the regular-season finale and what people were saying about Kansas City:
The Chiefs were No. 4 in ESPN’s ranking. This is part of what Adam Teicher wrote about Chiefs’ most notable moment of the 2010s: “The Chiefs ended decades of a mostly fruitless search for a franchise quarterback when they traded up from No. 27 to No. 10 to draft Mahomes. He is a major reason the Chiefs won the AFC West in each of his two seasons as a starter and that they seem positioned to dominate the division for years to come.”
The Chiefs were No. 3 in the CBS Sports rankings. Pete Prisco wrote: “The defense has made big-time strides in the past month. Now they have the second seed, which will make them a real Super Bowl threat.”
The Chiefs are No. 4 in the USA Today ranking. Nate Davis wrote: “TE Travis Kelce was their only player to exceed 1,000 yards from scrimmage, however K.C. did have five others who topped 500 yards.”
The Chiefs are ranked No. 2 in Bleacher Report’s ranking. Brad Gagnon wrote: “It feels like the stars are aligning for the Chiefs, who are healthy and smoking-hot on both sides of the ball entering the playoffs with a bye. Is this finally Andy Reid’s time? The guy has earned it, and you can really see a road for Kansas City. I’d argue that this team is actually in a better position entering the playoffs than last year’s top-seeded squad.”
The Chiefs are ranked No. 3 by Vinnie Iyer of the Sporting News. He wrote: “The Chiefs’ offense keeps finding more answers around Patrick Mahomes with his full health and Damien Williams taking over the backfield like he did late last season. Steve Spagnuolo’s installation of the 4-3 scheme has paid off big-time, from Frank Clark to defensive MVP Tyrann Mathieu.”
The Chiefs were No. 5 in the rankings from Peter Botte of the New York Post. This is part of what he wrote: “With Mahomes and Tyreek Hill fully healthy and at least one home game at Arrowhead, will the Chiefs pose a dangerous threat to Baltimore or will Andy Reid’s team come up short again?”
