KC fans donate to charity for Miami’s Ryan Fitzpatrick, who gets Mitch Holthus invite

It’s safe to say Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick won’t ever have to buy a drink in Kansas City.

On Sunday, as the Chiefs were putting the finishing touches on a 31-21 win over the Chargers, fans saw the Patriots take the lead on Miami at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

A New England victory would keep the Chiefs as the third seed in the AFC playoffs, but then something magical happened.

Fitzpatrick led a 13-play, 75-yard drive against a stout Patriots defense that was capped with a touchdown pass with 29 seconds to play. Miami beat New England 27-24 and the Chiefs jumped into the No. 2 seed and earned a playoff bye.

The Chiefs players were thrilled on the sideline with some exclaiming: “Fitzmagic!” In the stands at Arrowhead Stadium, fans erupted in joy after the Dolphins scored.

Later on Sunday, Carrington Harrison of KCSP (610 AM), Chiefs fan Tanner Westberg and others shared a link to a charity Fitzpatrick supports, the Concussion Legacy Foundation. Some Chiefs fans made donations (and a new Chiefs/Dolphins mashup logo was being shared):

One fan bought a Fitzpatrick jersey:

Chiefs announcer Mitch Holthus said he had invited Fitzpatrick to join the weekly “Chiefs Kingdom” radio show:

There is also a petition to have Fitzpatrick be the drum leader at a Chiefs game. Former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander shared a link to the petition, which has nearly 15,000 signatures:
