NBC Sports’ Cris Collinsworth believes Patrick Mahomes has regained his ‘magic’
In his preparation for working the “Sunday Night Football” game on NBC, analyst Cris Collinsworth watched the replay of the Chiefs’ 23-3 win over the Broncos.
There’s nothing unusual about that, of course. But Collinsworth was blown away by what he saw, particularly from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
So when Collinsworth called in to “The Rich Eisen Show” on Thursday, he didn’t hesitate when Eisen asked which team might not be a top-two seed in the playoffs but still a strong contender to win the Super Bowl.
“Kansas City. ... I thought Mahomes looked like MVP Mahomes again,” Collinsworth said. “It was really one of the best games I’ve seen all year from a player.”
Collinsworth was amazed by one throw in particular to tight end Blake Bell and said Mahomes didn’t seem hampered by ankle or knee injuries that had slowed him earlier this season.
“When he starts making those kinds of plays and he starts running the way that he is and he starts sliding like he’s a real baseball player instead of just trying to survive and not hurt his knee again,” Collinsworth said, “I just see some of the magic.”
Collinsworth, who will work the Chiefs’ game against the Bears in Chicago with Al Michaels, also had high praise for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
