Iowa State athletic director trolls K-State over bowl game snub

While happy to return to a bowl game this season, Kansas State football fans were irked at how the process played out.

The Wildcats were passed over for the Alamo Bowl and the Camping World Bowl, despite finishing in a four-way tie for third place in the Big 12 and winning one more game than Texas and Iowa State.

After the Longhorns were picked for the Alamo Bowl, the Camping World Bowl chose Iowa State, which also lost to the Wildcats in the season finale.

One big reason the Cyclones were picked? Iowa State fans bought a lot of tickets to the Cyclones’ previous two bowl games.

“They’re clearing taking a chance on Iowa State,” Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard told the Des Moines Register. “And my message to our fans will be, we need to step up and deliver like we always have, but more so now because they picked us over two teams that beat us and won eight games. If I was on the other side of that equation, I’d feel kind of down about it.”

Despite his empathy, Pollard poured salt in the Wildcats’ wounds on Wednesday as he trolled the Big 12 rival on Twitter:

That could be a dictionary definition for a back-handed compliment.

For a while, it was Farmageddon on Twitter after Pollard’s message of “support.”
