For Pete's Sake

NFL referee curses at Philip Rivers, who was trash-talking a Jaguars player after TD

Referee Bill Vinovich may get a hero’s welcome the next time he works a Chiefs game.

That’s because of what he said Sunday to Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.

During Jacksonville’s 45-10 loss to the Chargers on Sunday, Jaguars defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue had an interesting interaction with Rivers.

Rivers released a pass and was knocked to the ground by Ngakoue. It wasn’t late or dirty, just part of the play, and Ngakoue offered a hand to Rivers.

After being helped to his feet, Rivers yelled next to Ngakoue’s ear: “NINETY-YARD TOUCHDOWN!”

Vinovich interjected: “Get the (expletive) out of here.”

Rivers pleaded his case saying he can celebrate what was actually an 84-yard touchdown pass. Ngakoue said he didn’t want anyone to yell in his ear.

“I will do it by your ear. That’s what I do,” Rivers said.

The kicker to the video was Ngakoue on the sideline saying, “One-seven won’t stop talking.”

Rivers isn’t a fan favorite in Kansas City, and this clip likely won’t win him any supporters (via Twitter user Ben Murphy):

The Chargers were eliminated from postseason play on Sunday despite the big win.
