For Pete's Sake

Chiefs fans send warm wishes to Charcandrick West after he announces retirement

Running back Charcandrick West appeared in 52 games over five seasons with the Chiefs, and he clearly made an impact with fans.

West on Tuesday announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 28. He last played with the Chiefs in 2018 and had spent time with the Jets and Colts, but never got into a game for those teams.

The final career numbers for West: 998 yards rushing in 268 attempts with seven touchdowns. He also caught 77 passes for 589 yards and six touchdowns. West appeared in six playoff games and scored a touchdown against the Houston Texans in a wild-card game.

Those numbers won’t wow the average NFL fan, but it was an impressive total for a person who at age 14 was diagnosed with systemic juvenile arthritis and wondered if he’d ever run again.

West tweeted: “Football I love you!!! And everything you have brought me in life!! But it’s time for me to move on to the next chalet in life! I love and thank everyone who supported me!! The kid they said would never play football!!#nodreamistobig!! 35 out!!”

Chiefs fans responded to West and offered their best wishes:
