Nine bonkers statistics from the Chiefs’ 54-51 loss to the Rams on Monday
Not that this blog endorses gambling, but kudos to those who took the over in Monday night’s Chiefs-Rams game.
The Rams beat the Chiefs 54-51 in a wildly entertaining “Monday Night Football” game, and there were some amazing statistics to come out once the dust settled.
And that doesn’t even include that those who bet the over were winners in the third quarter.
Here are nine stats to come out of the Monday night classic.
1. The Chiefs were the first team in NFL history to lose a game when scoring at least 50 points. ESPN Stats and Info said teams scoring 50 points in NFL history were 216-0 entering Monday’s game. They are now 217-1.
2. The Chiefs have scored 40 or more points in their two losses this season and NFL Research said the 1966 Giants are the only other team since 1940 to lose multiple games when scoring 40 or more points (two) in a single season, including the highest scoring game in NFL history (72-41 loss to Washington).
3. ESPN Stats and Info noted that the Chiefs are averaging more points per game in losses (45.5) than in wins (34.8) this season.
4. The teams combined for 14 touchdowns on Monday night. The Buffalo Bills, as ESPN’s Bill Barnwell pointed out, have scored 13 touchdowns this season.
5. Patrick Mahomes has two games with six or pass TD in his first 12 career games, and joins Ben Roethlisberger (2014) and Y.A. Tittle (1962) as the only player since 1950 with two games with six or more TD passes in a single season.
6. ESPN said Mahomes’ six TD passes were the most in a “Monday Night Football” game.
7. Kareem Hunt now has seven rushing and seven receiving touchdowns through the first 11 games, and ESPN reported the last NFL player to do that was Lenny Moore. He did in 1961 with the Baltimore Colts.
8. Mahomes has thrown for 37 touchdown passes, the second-most in NFL history through 11 games. Tom Brady had 38 in 2007, while Peyton Manning had 35 in 2004 and 34 in 2013.
9. Tyreek Hill, who caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes, now has 15 touchdowns of 50 or more yards, the second most in NFL history of any player before they turned 25. Randy Moss also had 15, while Gale Sayers had 16.
