NFL Network host on why Chiefs-Rams has chance to be ‘best game of the year’

Monday night’s Chiefs-Rams game could be the biggest thing since Magnus Carlsen faced off against Fabiano Caruana, right?

OK, it’s possible fans are unaware that the world chess championship is underway in London, where Carlsen and Caruana have played five matches, which have resulted in ... five draws.

It seems unlikely that the Chiefs-Rams game will end in a tie, if for no other reason than these two teams can score a ton of points. KC is second in the NFL in scoring (35.3 points per game), followed by Los Angeles (33.5).

But Peter Schrager of the NFL Network earlier this week made the correlation between the chess championship and Monday’s game.

“We’ve got (Rams coach Sean) McVay and Andy Reid, this is the greatest chess match we’ve ever seen between two offensive geniuses,” Schrager said on “Good Morning Football.”

Schrager believes that Monday night’s game should be seen as the most hyped offensive showcase since 1982 when the Chargers and Don “Air” Coryell faced off against the 49ers and Bill Walsh.

That game went back and forth before the Chargers won 41-37 on a late Dan Fouts touchown pass to Chuck Muncie. The teams combined for 1,003 yards in the game, including 810 passing yards.

“I want to see this offensive firepower from both sides deliver on Monday night in LA. The Mexico City thing is a shame, because that would have been really cool, but don’t take away from what will be the best game of the weekend and quite possibly the best game of the year,” Schrager said. “I am so excited.”
