For Pete's Sake

Here is full sequence of Division III basketball player sucker punching opponent

Sports fans around the country felt the same revulsion about a video that went viral Wednesday showing a basketball player being hit in the face by an opponent’s forearm.

Nichols College’s Nate Tenaglia shot a three-pointer from the corner and while watching the flight of the ball, Fitchburg State’s Kewan Platt appeared to intentionally hit Tenaglia in the face.

As the video was being circulated, Platt was suspended by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and barred from the Fitchburg State campus.

“The Fitchburg State community is appalled by the conduct displayed during Tuesday night’s home basketball game. The player involved has been indefinitely suspended from the team and barred from campus, effective immediately,” the school said in a statement.

“His behavior is antithetical to our community values and good sportsmanship. Fitchburg State does not tolerate behavior that violates those standards. The case is being reviewed at the student conduct level for consideration of further sanctions.”

Here is the video that was widely shared:

A longer video was posted to YouTube and it shows that Platt appeared to be upset that a foul wasn’t called on the other end of the court.

Also, while the official nearest to the incident didn’t see the play, Platt was called for a foul on the play as you can see here:

ESPN reported that Platt was ejected.
