Here is who national experts are saying will win Chiefs’ game against Cardinals
Did you hear that the Chiefs have never been a bigger favorite than they are for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals?
The Arizona players have. And they aren’t believing they should be 17-point underdogs.
“The only opinion I’m concerned with are the men in this room and the coaching staff and our front office,” defensive tackle Corey Peters told the Arizona Republic. “I know nobody’s picking us to win this game and that’s fine. The reality is, the 11 guys on the field are going to determine the outcome.
“But the Cardinals, plus 17? I’m taking that all day, man.”
Even in straight-up picks, the Chiefs are a heavy favorite. For the third straight week, all but one of the 47 national NFL observers who made straight-up picks for the game went with the Chiefs. Yep, someone picked the Cardinals.
Heading into Sunday’s Chiefs-Cardinals game at Arrowhead Stadium, here is the breakdown and what people are saying about the game:
Elliot Harrison of NFL.com thinks the Chiefs will win 35-10. He wrote in part: “The good news here is that Arizona has gotten to the quarterback 24 times, notching 72 hurries according to Pro Football Focus. And the Cards have only missed 52 tackles, far less than outstanding defenses like the Cowboys or Ravens. Cool. They’ll still lose.”
David Steele of the Sporting News went with a 37-17 Chiefs win. He wrote: “It would be easy for the Chiefs, the highest-scoring team in the NFL, to look past this game, against an offense that’s still dragging the bottom of the rankings. But the Chargers are staying on the Chiefs’ backs, so the faster Patrick Mahomes dispatches with the Cardinals, the better.”
Seven of the eight CBS Sports writers picked the Chiefs: Pete Prisco, Jared Dubin, John Breech, Dave Richard, Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson and Jamey Eisenberg. However, Jason La Canfora again believes the Chiefs will lose (he also forecast a Browns win last week). Prisco predicted a 30-20 Chiefs win. He wrote in part: “(Quarterback) Josh Rosen looked good in his last game, but this road environment will be tough for him. Even so, I think the Cardinals keep it closer than expected.”
ESPN’s 10 experts predicted a Chiefs victory: Mike Golic, Trey Wingo, Molly Qerim, Louis Riddick, Kevin Seifert, Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Mina Kimes, Dan Graziano and Seth Wickersham.
Each of USA Today’s five experts picked the Chiefs: Nate Davis, Lorenzo Reyes, Mike Jones, Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz and Jarrett Bell.
The eight Pro Focus Football writers predicted a Chiefs victory:
All seven Sports Illustrated Monday Morning Quarterback writers picked the Chiefs: Albert Breer, Andrew Brandt, Mitch Goldich, Jonathan Jones, Bette Marston, Mark Mravic and Jenny Vrentas.
The seven SB Nation writers went with the Chiefs: Adam Stites, Ryan Van Bibber, Charles McDonald, David Fucillo, Geoff Schwartz, Stephen White and Christian D’Andrea predicted a Chiefs victory.
